A new thing thats been bothering me. It seems like the fact that the Administration has been so vague about their actual motivations for this war, that theyll be able to define almost anything after the fact as being successful. Of course our military will eventually occupy the whole of Baghdad, and the US will likely control Iraq. Is this success? It certainly looks enough like it to a lot of people, according to a recent LA Times poll. According to those polled, 52% would support military action against Iran, if it does not stop its nuclear program. Rummy has also been yelling at Syria, which seems now like a mere pretext to set up the next stripped ball into the corner pocket. Unfortunately, its the long-term implications of this policy that contain the greatest costs. Thus, the administration is getting public support based on incomplete information. This is not good. Do we really want to spend the money to control the ENTIRE Middle East? Not if we want to have any money in the future for education, or health care, or the arts and humanities, and other government services.

Hey, wait a minute . . .
